By eminent architect Sir Robert Lorimer (Edinburgh), 1921. Mercat Cross type war memorial. Square shaft surmounted by cross, on pedestal with niche containing a bronze figure representing "Good overcoming Evil" (St George slaying the dragon) by renowned sculptor C d’O Pilkington Jackson, set on stepped base with octagonal balustraded parapet surround, each face containing a tablet with inscribed names of the 243 men of Kelso and District who gave their lives for us all.
Inscribed on the obelisk are the words:
"To the Glory of God and in honoured memory
of the men of this town and district who fell in the Great War.
Greater Love Hath No Man Than This."
