Lairds Apple Brandy

Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring is a sucker for an historical marker. He hardly ever drives past one without stopping and taking some photos.

This one is in front of the Laird Homestead in Scobeyville, New Jersey about 8 miles from Aggie Ring’s home.

The marker states: “Laird’s Apple Jack “Jersey Lightening” — The first distillery for production of “cyder spirits” was started by the Laird family in circa 1780. Moved to present location in 1849 and still owned and operated by the ninth generation of the Laird family.”

The apple brandy that they made shortly after the American Revolution was sought after by President George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Most of the larger liquor stores carry several varieties of it.

Aggie Ring and I find it a bit strong to sip, but when used as a “floater” on top of some cheap whiskey like, say… Jack Daniels, it’s quite good.

The Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring lets loose his trademark “Evil Aggie Ring Laugh™” whenever I use the term “float.” He screams out, “Everyone floats down here!” If he’s had a few drinks in him, Aggie Ring will let out the “Evil Laugh™” and, using his best evil clown voice, scream out, “ I’ll kill you all! Aha, I’ll drive you crazy, and I’ll kill you all! I’m every nightmare you’ve ever had. I am your worst dream come true! I am everything you ever were afraid of!”

The road goes on forever and the party never ends.
